Trifari - TKF (kTf)-Clipmates

Gustavo Trifari, an Italian immigrant to the US, may have started his business with an uncle, and called the business Trifari and Trifari, but apparently Gustavo and the uncle parted company within a few years. Gustavo went into business with Leo Krussman somewhere around 1918, and were later joined by Carl Fishel. (Apparently the mark TK in a circle has been found in a 1922 Jewelers' Circular, which would infer than Fishel was not part of the organization at that time.) TKF was an abbreviation for the last names (Trifari, Krussman, and Fishel) and the first substantiated use of this mark, a large T flanked by a smaller K and F, is about 1935. Later, it was decided to use just the word "Trifari" rather than the more cumbersome three names, as the owners felt it sounded elegant and European. A crown has been used with the word Trifari in both the advertising and actually on the signature stamping, usually on the more expensive pieces.

Many collectors feel that Trifari jewelry, especially those pieces from the 1930's-1960, are among the finest pieces of costume jewelry ever produced. Though Alfred Philippe was head designer for many years and signed most of the design patents issued to Trifari, a number of top notch designers worked for the company. When one reads of the extensive quality control used in the production of the pieces, it is no wonder they often remain as beautiful today as they were when produced. It is interesting to see how, over the years, the same designs were varied, with and without stones, with and without enameling, and in various stones colors if stones were used.

Trifari, like Eisenberg and other companies, began advertising that genuine Trifari was always signed, because of the number of inexpensive copies by jobbers that began to be sold (vintage repros, if you will). However, that doesn't mean that Trifari pieces, from the very beginning of the company, were always signed, only those after a certain time frame (probably the 1940's). And it is always possible that an occasional piece slipped thru unsigned, but that would probably have been pretty rare because of Trifari's quality control.

It is interesting to note that, along with jewelry, signed non-jewelry Trifari items have been found that include watches, belts, hair accessories, compacts, cigarette lighters sunglasses, and umbrellas. These items should be considered quite rare. Clipmates are Trifari's version of the double clip brooch (duette). Not particularly common, these are, in the viewpoint of the writer, a currently undervalued type of Trifari.

Whether you are looking for the deco pieces of the 1930's, the WWII Retro and sterling styles, the postwar cocktail style, the tailored 1960's pieces often with pearls, the 1970's enamels or the Kunio Matsumoto pieces from the early 1980's, Trifari never disappoints. The thousands of designs that this company produced, in all their many variations, means an incredible legacy of fashion design that is still wearable on a daily basis for most collectors, with a wide variety of looks that will satisfy almost every taste.

Description: Trifari Faux Alexandrite/Amethyst Rhinestone Necklace and Bracelet Set - This design was done by Trifari in a number of colors and color combinations; this is often described as aqua/purple, light blue/purple or lavender/purple rhinestones, but it is in fact faux alexandrite (a color change stone that looks aqua-light blue in some lights, and lavender in direct sunlight) and purple (amethyst). This came to me with several of the faux alexandrite stones missing, so I ended up replacing most of the alexandrite rhinestones in order to get a good color match. Set in silvertone, these are now in excellent restored condition. Top picture shows set in fluorescent lighting, bottom in waning daylight. Necklace is adjustable, with hook and tail closure, up to 15"; bracelet is 7 1/4", with safety chain. Shown in the 1961 Trifari advertising "Memo to a Smart Woman", these pieces originally retailed for $20.00. I have seen the necklace alone for sale on ebay for $125.00.

Item: SS1-1048

Price: $120.00/set US

Description: Trifari Purple/Black Enamel/Clear Rhinestone Earrings - From 1941, these earrings match a well known furclip, and a very rare snake brooch that is currently on Rubylane for $5900! Purple unfoiled oval stones are prong set in a floral motif, with black enameled leaves and clear rhinestone set stems. Typical clip mechanism for Trifari in the 1940's. Goldtone setting (these are pre war so not sterling). Black enamel is somewhat worn but not badly considering their age and could be touched up if desired, but I have left them "au natural". A few of the clear rhinestone accent stones have darkened. 1 1/4" x 7/8". These are difficult to find.

Item: SE3-1051

Price: $99.50/set US

•••

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Lyre Brooch - I am not sure that is what Trifari intended, but this does look like a stylized musical lyre. Matte goldtone with all clear rhinestones, signed Trifari with copyright symbol. 3" x 1 1/2" and quite domed, a really lovely, graceful design. Excellent condition.

Item: SP3-1052

Price: $49.50 US

•••

Description: Trifari Goldtone and Clear Rhinestone Leaf Brooch - Another graceful design, this time done in matte goldtone and accented in clear rhinestones. (This was also done in silvertone, and in colored rather than clear stones, see SS10-954). 2 5/8" x 1 3/8", slightly domed. Excellent condition. Signed crown Trifari with copyright symbol.

Item: SP3-1053

Price: $39.50 US

Description: Trifari kTf Clear Rhinestone Clip-Mates Double Pin (Duette) - Most people refer to these as duettes, but technically Coro used the term duette and Trifari used the term Clip-Mates, which you can see on the signature part of the piece. Two lacey looking dress clips set with all clear rhinestones, silvertone setting. Usual dress clip finding for Clipmates. Slightly over 2 3/4" x 1 1/4" assembled. Marked CLIPMATES and Pat. No. 2050804, clips themselves are marked KTF, dating this to 1936-37. One clip slides off very easily, the other I have not been able to remove for fear of breaking the mechanism. Usual uniform greying of the stones typical of these mid-1930's pieces. Lovely design. Very similar dress clips were patented by Trifari in late 1937 though I could not find this specific one (Patent number on the frame is for the frame itself.)

Item: SD5-1060

Price: $72.50 US

Description: Trifari KTF Pink Shoebutton Bracelet - Probably from the late 1930's, this link style bracelet has three stations using four pink glass shoebutton cabochons, centered with a tiny blue cabochon, with the links and connectors in between between set with clear rhinestones. Foldover rhinestone clasp, 7" x 5/16" wide. Signed KTF (see picture). Silvertone setting. Very slight yellowing/greying of the small clear rhinestones; 9 of the 12 tiny blue cabochons are replacements. I decided against trying to remove the original three, so there is a little difference in the depth between the original and the replacements, but this is not noticeable to the casual observer. A delicate piece from a by-gone era.

Description: Trifari Ornate Necklace in Fuchsia and Black Diamond Rhinestone - THE necklace shown in Deanna Farneti Cera's "Amazing Gems" book, this is a once in a lifetime find. This is in excellent original condition, I can find no flaws, and even the Trifari case that it came in, which I am including, is in very good condition, with only some wear to the corners and edges as would be expected. This is a graduated design, 1 3/4" at the widest, 3/8" at the back. Foldover clasp, about 15 1/2" long. The pave work is all black diamond rhinestones, with all fuchsia oval rhinestones for the rest of the piece. An ultimate collectors piece to treasure forever.

Description: Trifari Citrine/Topaz Rhinestone Floral Brooch and Bracelet - A color combination that must have been popular in the early 1950's, this uses bright yellow and golden topaz rhinestones, set in a floral motif. The brooch is curved both up and down and front to back to give it a 3-D effect. Citrine pears for leaves, topaz marquises for leaves and clear rhinestone rounds at the center, with clear rhinestone baguettes and tapered baguettes making up the stem. 3" x about 3/4", goldtone setting, marked Pat. Pend. and crown Trifari. Bracelet is 7 3/8" x 3/4" and uses the same configuration of stones, except that there are 3 clears at the floral centers. Plating is somewhat worn on the back of the bracelet, otherwise excellent original condition. The patent for this design dates to 1951.

Description: Trifari "Lightning" Earrings - These match the Trifari necklace and brooch of that are shown on the Trifari page, SN7-392 and SP12-893. From 1961, the earrings seem to be more difficult to find than the necklace and brooch. About 1" x 7/8" at widest points, these alternate two rows of round clear rhinestones with a single row of clear baguettes. Very sleek and graceful, these are in excellent condition, shiny rhodium plating. Marked crown Trifari with copyright symbol, clip mechanisms as the usual ones for this time period.

Item: SE10-1040

•••

Description: Trifari Goldtone and Rhinestone Earrings - From 1948, these earrings match a wonderful necklace and earrings that have a brick style design for the chain portion and are centered with the clear rhinestone double row motif that is found on the earrings. 1" x 7/8", these use a substantial clip mechanism that is marked Trifari with a crown, while the body of the earrings is marked crown Trifari Pat. Pend. Excellent condition, with the rhinestones being all new replacements, as these came to me missing one stone and I could not find a match in color/size/cut so I replaced them all for uniformity.

Description: Trifari Enamel and Faux Turquoise Cabochon Hinged Bracelet and Earrings Set - These 1960's era pieces are marked crown Trifari and copyright symbol; I have seen this design also done with emerald green or dark blue cabochons. The bracelet is an oval shaped clamper with a figure eight safety, 2 3/16" x 1 13/16" x 3/4" wide. The white enamel is more of a creamy white than a dead white and is in very good condition, no dings on the bracelet and only a few on the earring on the left in the picture. The only flaw I can see is on the left earring the enamel is a little dark along the outer edge and isn't shiny like the rest of the piece. This is not noticeable to the casual observer and wouldn't be seen when worn but needs to be noted. The clip earrings are about 1" in diameter and use the standard Trifari clip mechanism from that era. Goldtone setting.

Item: SS10-1039

Price: $119.50/set US

•••

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Adjustable Choker Necklace - Clear Rhinestone necklace done with marquise and round stones, all paste set, with the exception of the stones on the extension chain which are pronged. Lovely design, this may be part of the "Contessa" series. Hook clasp is signed simply Trifari. Silvertone setting, all is in excellent vintage condition. 5/8" wide, maximum extension of 15 1/2", though it would not be difficult to add extra chain if needed. A classic 1950's look.

Item: SN10-1042

Price: $59.50US

•••

Description: Trifari Olivine and Black Diamond Rhinestone Brooch - While this design is similar to the "Contessa" series, it is not the same design. The "fleurette" design of 6 round stones surrounding a center round stone is used 6 times around the border of this brooch, with clusters of 4 stones alternating with the fleurettes that are accented with black diamond marquise leaves. The larger center flower of 9 round stones around a larger center olive green stone is also accented with marquise leaves, this time done in olive green, that alternate with single black diamond rounds. 2" in diameter, set in a darkened silvertone. Great any time of year but especially nice for the holidays for an alternative to emerald green. Excellent condition, signed Trifari with crown symbol, this would appear to be an early-mid 1950's piece.

Item: SP9-1045

Price: $49.50 US

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Baguette Bracelet - It is rare to get clear rhinestone jewelry that is 60 years old in exceptional condition, but this piece qualifies. Three staggered rows of clear baguettes terminal in a pave set circle for either side of the baguette set foldover clasp. Silvertone (probably rhodium) setting, 7 1/8" x 1/4". Nice weight. Signed Trifari with crown on back of the clasp.

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Bird Brooch with Red Cabochon Eye - Another piece in almost pristine condition, this uses a pave set body with baguette set tail and a red glass cabochon eye. Rhodium plate, marked Trifari with crown. 1 3/4" x 1 1/4". Early 1950's?

Item: SP6-1033

Description: Trifari Sterling Vermeil Brooch with Blue Cabochons - This was patented in April of 1945 (des. pat. no. 140781) and uses oval cabochon glass stones in blue, with ruby red and clear rhinestones for accents. About 2 5/8" x 1". In very good original condition with the spinner missing from the clasp; brooch stays closed without it but you may wish to have the clasp replaced. (While not all Trifari is solderable, because this is sterling it should not be a problem). I have priced it so that you can afford to make that repair if you so desire.

Description: Trifari Opaque Turquoise and Montana Rhinestone Clip Earrings - These earrings match a highly sought-after necklace that was usually done as a brooch/decorative clasp with three strands of beads (see Trifari SN1-936 for the necklace design in white/clear). Button site uses center faux turquoise cab and and perimeter of faux turquoise beads alternating with navy (Montana blue) rhinestones. I replaced a missing navy rhinestone. Button style is slightly over 1", with usual 1960's era Trifari clip mechanism. Marked Trifari with crown, silvertone earring findings.

Item: SE3-1008

Price: $32.50 US

•••

Description: Trifari Emerald Green and Clear Rhinestone Earrings - Late 1950's or early 1960's earrings use a pave set leaf outline with a lot of small round green rhinestones. Trifari used a similar leaf design with slightly larger ovals and pears, so this was apparently a popular theme for them. Up the ear design is 1 3/8" x 5/8", excellent condition, with the original pave work in unusually nice shape. I have seen this design called Lutece but I cannot confirm that that is correct.

Item: SE3-1009

Price: $32.50 US

Description: Trifari Citrine and Clear Rhinestone Necklace - A Trifari design I have seen in both all clear and colored/clear, this is the hard-to-find citrine and clear version. Small pave set leaves are surrounded with baguette, pear and oval stones on each link, all set in silvertone Trifanium. Adjustable hook and tail closure, with citrine colored baguettes terminating with a citrine colored marquise on the tail. Adjusts from 14" to 16", 7/8" wide. Excellent, almost pristine condition. Signed Trifari on the inside of the hook.

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Brooch - From the well known "Have a Very Trifari Christmas" of 1965, this rarely seen brooch matches (design-wise, not colorwise) the SE12-540 and SE12-417 earrings, already sold, at the bottom of the Trifari page. Done in all clear rhinestones and silver Trifanium, this graceful, elegant piece is 3" x 1 1/4" and is in excellent condition with only very slight yellowing of some of the navettes. Signed Crown Trifari and copyright symbol, there is also an incised number (417?) very close to the signature that can only be seen if you hold the brooch at the right angle. This brooch retailed for $15.00 in 1965.

Description: Trifari Large Citrine/Topaz/Clear Star Brooch - Actually this is a floral, as this design was done in both this version and another even larger version with stem and leaves. Absolutely breathtaking with citrine pears on the petals, and a center of topaz marquises, and a generous sprinkling of clear rhinestones throughout. I have photoed this on contrasting backgrounds. 2 3/4" in diameter. This came to me missing the pinstem, which was redone by the fabulous Victor Weyrich. Excellent repaired condition, price reflects as this would be much more if in excellent original condition.

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Silvertone Clip Earrings - But not just everyday clear rhinestone clip earrings. If you look at SS1-907 (sold) these earrings are the clear rhinestone version. It should be noted that as far as I know, clear was the only color that this design series was done where all the stones were the same color, and this seems to have also even come in clear with black diamond! Very rarely found. 1 1/8" x 3/4", done with rhodium plate instead of the matte finish usually found with this series. Very good condition with just slight yellowing of some of the stones.

Item: SE2-997

Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Floral Fur Clip - Though I cannot find a patent that specifically addresses this piece, there are a number of patented Trifari pieces that use this same floral head in 1939, and this piece is, in fact, marked patent pending (pat. pend.)along with Trifari with crown on the fur clip mechanism and what appears to be copr. on the back of one of the stones. The fur clip mechanism also uses the rolling pin clasp, which is not often found. At 2" x 1 1/4", this is one of the smaller fur clips, and similar clips with the same floral heads are often said to be tremblers, but this one is riveted on as you may be able to see on the back picture, so there is no trembling going on here.(My dear friend and Trifari expert extraordinaire Robin has been kind enough to tell me that this was done with a trembler in 1939, but reissued without in 1948, Pat. # 151,544, at which time many Trifari pieces were marked with the copr. and Pat. Pend. and at this time the rolling clasp was added to several fur clip designs. Thank you Robin!! ) Condition: this came to me with one prong missing; this has been expertly repaired by Victor Weyrich. Plating is fine; some of the small clears have yellowed or greyed as is typical of these pieces; the larger stones are dentelles and in nice shape, except for the one that is at 4 o'clock from the floral head. This appears to be a replacement as it is a chaton and is not in good shape, and I fear the person who did this used (ack!) super glue. Plating looks cracked on back next to this stone but I don't think it is structurally unsound. Hopefully I am not making this sound worse than it is, I would have no problem wearing and enjoying this beautiful piece for years, but I want you, the customer, to have my evaluation before purchasing. Price reflects condition.

Description: Trifari Black Diamond and Clear Rhinestone Necklace and Earrings Set - Fabulous link necklace and earrings use black diamond ovals and clear rhinestone pave set lines. Necklace has a border of black diamond ovals running continuously around the edge of the necklace, topped with clear rhinestone undulating lines, with small rhinestone set link connectors. Adjustable hook and tail, this was difficult to measure accurately due to the built in curve but is about 14" to 16" depending on where you hook it. Earrings use a larger black diamond oval stone, with two clear rhinestone lines wrapped around it, and then bordered with smaller oval black diamonds. Earrings have standard Trifari clip backs and measure about 1 1/8" x 1" Silvertone Trifanium setting. Earrings are marked crown Trifari with copyright, necklace is Trifari with copyright. For those of you who feel that the crown means something in particular, this necklace is one of the most substantial and beautiful Trifari necklaces I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot. When you see it, you won't care whether it has a crown or not. Other than a tiny bit of yellowing on the pave I see no issues here.

Done in goldtone, the brooch is a very nice size at 2 1/2" in each direction. The dangle earrings are 2" x 3/4" and use the usual clip findings for the 1960's. Description: Trifari Floral Fur Clip with Pink/Blue/White/Green Enamel - I am pleased to have another one of these for sale, with the enamel in better condition. Des. Pat. No. 121253 from June of 1940, this graceful design measures 3" x 2" and uses pink, light blue, and creamy white enamel for the flowers and two shades of green and brown for the leaves and stems. Slight chipping on the ends of some of the flower petals, enamel on middle flower bud is gone but the two are in fairly good shape. The white enamel looks like it might have been touched up but it is exactly the right color and if it was redone the enamelist forgot to do the flower bud! So I am not certain, but there are a couple of drips of enamel on the back that leads me to wonder if it was redone. Silvertone setting, lots of little accent rhinestones, clip mechanism works well. Marked Trifari on fur clip mechanism, and the patent number on the body of the piece. Our price is considerably less than the asking price on ebay.

I am guessing these are late 1950's production, excellent condition and so mirror-like that you can see a reflection of what I was wearing when I took the picture. Usual 1950's-60's earring clasp.

Description: Trifari Purple Cabochon and Green Stone Sterling Earrings - This earring was patented in April, 1945 (shortly before the end of WWII) and is marked Trifari on the 40's era clip and Des Pat No. 140798 on the inside body of the clip, as well as Sterling on the "wing" part of the body. A line of clear rhinestones run up the center of the wing portion of the design, and a small section of pave is on the underside. Bottom of design is done with unfoiled purple cabochons alternating with green stones that have soft facets. Vermeil is very slightly worn and certainly mellowed, but is definitely still there, as opposed to so many of these pieces that have lost much or most of their goldwash. Everything appears original here and in excellent condition, even the clears are in good shape. About 1 1/4" x 7/8". Rarely found pieces and quite beautiful.

Description: Trifari ClipMates Double Clip/Pin in Blue and Clear Rhinestones - I purchased this piece many years ago from a well known dealer and have never been certain whether this was restoned or not. Some of the clears show a little greying which is typical of all legitimate Trifari of this era, so I am just not certain. Both clip mechanisms are marked crown Trifari and when they are slid off of the pinstem holder you can see "Clip-Mates" on one clip and Pat No for the utility (findings) patent on the other. Excellent shape, about 2 1/2" x 1" assembled.

Description: Trifari Lattice Floral Brooch and Earrings Set - This is the matching brooch for the sold set SS9-651 shown on the Trifari page, with an alternate style pair of earrings with only one flower instead of three. The pink, light blue, and white flowers are all centered with an aurora borealis rhinestone, with the goldtone metal enameled white on the lattice and green on the leaves. The brooch measures 2 3/4" x 1 3/4" and is marked crown Trifari with copyright symbol. It is in excellent condition. The earrings flower is white, also with white enamel on the lattice and green on the leaves. These are in excellent condition except for the white enamel being quite worn and a small wear spot in the green enamel on one leaf. The earrings have the usual clip findings for the 1950's-60's and measure 1" x 3/4" at widest point.

Description: Trifari Sterling Demi Parure in Multi Jeweltone/Clear Rhinestones - Highly collectible, this demi parure of necklace, earrings and brooch is marked crown Trifari, with all pieces also being marked Pat. Pend. and sterling. The patent for the brooch, 148,390 was issued Jan. 20, 1948, so if these came on the market prior to the patent being issued, I think it is safe to say that these are mid 1940's, particularly since they are sterling (the marking on the earrings is on the back of the cast piece, not on the lattice backing, and you have to look thru the lattice to see it.) The necklace has a foldover clasp and measures 14 3/4" and is 15/16" at center point. Domed earrings are also 7/8" in diameter and have the usual 1940's earring back. Brooch is 1 3/4" x 1 7/8". All are in excellent condition except that the vermeil is mostly worn off on the brooch. A set to cherish, and very complimentary.

Description: Trifari Round and Baguette Necklace & Earrings Set with All Clear Rhinestones - This design was called "Midnight" and is from 1957. The link necklace uses "V" shaped designs using clear baguette rhinestones, that flank a zig zagging center row of small round clear rhinestones. With four V shapes per link, this articulates beautifully for a perfect fit. Extension chain, this will fit up to about a 16" neck. About 3/8" wide. Earrings are clip, very slightly domed, about 7/8" in diameter. Silvertone, rhodium plated setting. Necklace is marked Trifari in all capitals, with copyright symbol, earrings are marked Trifari with crown and copyright symbol. Usual Trifari 1950's clip mechanism. Necklace is in excellent, almost pristine condition, earrings are also very good but with a little stone darkening. I have also seen a matching bracelet, and would guess there is also a matching brooch but I have not seen one. I have this same set in my personal collection and can recommend it as a flattering, wearable design worthy of any collection.

Description: Trifari Syncopation Necklace, Bracelet and Earrings - Summer jewelry from 1957, Syncopation is my favorite of all the white thermoplastic jewelry that Trifari produced. Set in GOLDTONE (this set was also produced in silvertone), the earrings measure 1" x about 3/4", and use what I feel is the "better" clip mechanism that Trifari seems to have used in the 1950's (both are good, but this is just a little more substantial clip). Necklace is adjustable hook, not quite 1" wide, and was difficult to measure accurately but should fit up to a 15" neck (this could be extended quite easily). Bracelet is 7" x 1 1/4". Top sides are in excellent condition, back sides are worn but not badly (and I have never seen any pieces from this design that didn't have plate wear). I love the Egyptian feel of the collar necklace. Great any time of the year (could be worn over a black turtleneck, for example) but particularly nice for summer.

Description: Trifari Goldtone/Clear Rhinestone Doorknocker Earrings - I am not certain what the design name was for these earrings, but I have seen a knock-out Trifari necklace that I am almost certain is the match for these. These dangle earrings use an open double loop at the bottom that is accented with clear baguettes, top echoes the design somewhat in a smaller version. Usual 1950's clip mechanism, these are marked crown Trifari and Design Pat. Pend. The patent number 170,275 was issued for this same design in August of 1953 with Philippe listed as the inventor, making these 60 years old. Very good condition, baguettes are in good shape, and any plating wear is only seen with extremely close scrutiny. About 1 1/2" x 1" at widest point.

Description: Trifari Chalk White and Clear Rhinestone Necklace/Brooch - Most Trifari designs were done in a number of colors/color combinations - this is the white (and much harder to find) version of a sought-after turquoise/montana blue combination. This uses a fancy chalk white and rhinestone clasp that is convertible to a brooch - both ends of the necklace have a push-in clasp that can go into either side of the brooch. The three strand necklace consists of opaque white 8mm beads separated by silvertone crimp beads. Brooch/clasp is an opaque white center cabochons, surrounded by a row of clear rhinestones, then a row of chalk white balls alternating with clear rhinestones, then a border of more clear rhinestone. Brooch is silvertone, 1 3/4" in diameter. Very good condition with very slight yellowing of a few of the rhinestones as would be expected from a legitimate 1960's piece. Dynamite looking on someone with darker/tanned skin.

Description: Crown Trifari Pentagonal "Etoile" Brooch in Light Blue AB- The "Etoile" series seems to have been made in a number of pastel shades - blue, pink, yellow, green, and even a topaz; here we have it in pastel blue. The center "nugget" stones are of unknown material, slightly rough to the touch, and having an aurora borealis finish over the top of a molded irregular top. Interspersed with tiny round light sapphire aurora borealis rhinestones, and edged with pear shaped stones in the same color, all is set in silver Trifanium. 2" in diameter.Very good to excellent condition with only a little loss of AB coating on a few of the nugget stones. Description: Trifari Olivine/Golden Topaz Rhinestone Necklace - A beautiful color combination particularly for fall, this necklace is completely rhinestone set right down to the foldover clasp (see picture) and stunning in person. At 15" x 5/8" it is definitely a choker length, you could extend with an appropriate foldover clasp extender if you have one. Goldtone finish, very good condition with some of the topaz navettes showing some aging, and the four at the back are replacements and very slightly darker, however this would not be seen when worn if your hair is long enough to cover, and is not noticeable even if seen unless someone points it out, but I have priced this taking this into consideration. Description: Incredible Trifari Fuchsia/Black Diamond Rhinestone Parure - The ultimate late 1950's Trifari parure in the most popular color combination in which this design was made. I don't use the word incredible here lightly. Whether this was done by Alfred Philippe or one of the other (probably French) designers hired by Trifari in the 1950's is unknown, and I have never been able to find a Trifari advertisement or patents for this particular design series, yet it is a set worthy of any woman. Link style necklace has adjustable hook and extension chain, up to 16" and almost 1/2" wide. Bracelet is 7" x 5/8", link style with stone set foldover clasp and safety chain. Clip earrings are 1 1/8" x about 3/4" and are slightly domed. Brooch is about 2 1/2" x 2". All pieces are done with fuchsia rhinestone ovals and black diamond (grey) rhinestone pave work. Description: Trifari Yellow Briolette Brooch - These pieces are referred to as "briolette" even though the crystal bead is actually kind of a cross between a bead and a rhinestone, with the back flattened. These pieces sparkle like crazy and the colors are intense. This is more of a citrine yellow, set in goldtone. Marked crown Trifari with copyright, 2 1/2" x 1 1/8". Description: Trifari "Egrets" Brooch Goldtone with Clear Rhinestones - Another classic brooch from the 1960's, this features very small clear rhinestones in rows, separated by goldtone "braid", in a stylized leaf design. 2 1/2" x 1 7/8", beautiful goldtone Trifanium finish on backside. A 1963 magazine ad shows this design series called "Egrets", conjuring up beautiful, elegant, delicate pieces. This is in very good condition, with only very slight aging of some of the tiny clears. Marked (crown) Trifari with copyright symbol, also incised very faintly with KRKY? which is probably a stone setters mark or design marking.

Description: Crown Trifari Rhinestone Leaf & Pearl Earclips - I have seen a LOT of Trifari but this was the first time for me to see this particular design/color combination. The paved leaves have open "veins" and the larger glass pearl is actually black with a green irridesence (smaller pearls are the usual Trifari glass pearls in ivory). I think the bottom picture shows the pearl color better (there is no "stripe" across the top of the pearl in reality, that is a reflection of a ceiling light) but the top photo is clearer, so I have included them both. About 1" x 1", excellent original condition with very slight aging to the clears, silvertone Trifanium finish, and standard 1960's earclip mechanism.

Slightly domed, this measures 2" in diameter and is about 1/4" deep. Plating is a little scratched at the center but is not spotty as it appears in the picture. Otherwise very good condition. Description: Trifari Crackle Pendant Necklace - Interesting and unusual look for Trifari, this pendant is on its original heavy black cord, pendant portion has a mosaic look around a white center and bail. Back of pendant has the crown Trifari with copyright tiny gold plaque. I'm not sure what material the crackle pieces are, but I am assuming plastic; the solid white portion of the metal on the pendant is enameled metal. (It should be noted that the enamel is not a dead white but an off-white). Neck cord has Trifari logo "T" hanging off the foldover clasp, about 20" long. Pendant portion is 1 7/8" x 1 1/2", not including bail. Another necklace from this series, called "Mosaics", is featured in one of the "world's most expensive piece of $17 jewelry" ads that were done probably in the 1960's, so probably our price isn't that much more than what you would have paid for the set back then.

Description: Trifari Red/AB Pendant Necklace & Earrings Set - This uses siam red marquises and rounds, with colored aurora borealis marquises. Pendant and earrings have similar but not identical designs. Pendant does not appear to be on the original chain but I am not certain; however, this would not be a typical Trifari chain. Pendant is marked (crown) Trifari, as are the earrings, with no copyright marking. Silvertone chain is 24", pendant is 1 1/2" x 3/4". Description: Trifari Clear Rhinestone Brooch and Earrings Set - I have seen colored versions of this design; here it is in all clear stones. Wheel inspired design has baguette spokes and rim with the body of the brooch done in oval shaped stones. Earrings are similar but only use one row of ovals and no baguette rim. Silvertone setting, all pieces marked Trifari Pat. Pend. Note the clip finding is not the usual for Trifari for this time period. At any rate, this uses dark blue cabochons, light sapphire blue pears and lots of clear rhinestones. Silvertone, probably rhodium, plate, 2 3/4" x 2 1/2". I can find no flaws here. Beautiful.

Description: Trifari Goldtone/Silvertone "Moderne" Pendant Necklace and Earrings Set - These 1970's-80's sets are gaining in popularity as prices for highend Trifari skyrocket. The design actually reminds me a little of door chimes, with the pendant portion having a graduated section from 1 7/8" to 2 5/8" that alternates goldtone and silvertone, freely suspended from a nicely done 24" chain, with the logo "Crown T" tag hanging from the springring clasp. Clip earrings also use both goldtone and silvertone "chimes" in a 1" length. Other than very mild surface scratching that is only visible in very bright light at the right angle, I find no problems.

Description: Crown Trifari "Meteor" Necklace, Bracelet, Brooch and Earring Set - This necklace set must have been a popular seller for Trifari; I believe I have also seen a colored rhinestone version, but this is the much more often found clear rhinestone/goldtone combination. This design was patented in 1949 (a similar necklace design was patented by Trifari in 1953); all four pieces are marked Trifari and patent pending, with the earrings having the crown over the T, so it would seem likely that these were produced late 1940's. Certainly there is a nice transitional feel of part retro, with the volutes and spirals, with a more modern channel set baguette rhinestone look Excellent original condition with mild plating wear on the back on the necklace center where it would rub against the body when worn, very slight wave in pin stem on brooch. Necklace has foldover clasp and measures about 15 1/2", with chain 5mm wide and central motif 2 1/2" x 7/8". Earrings are clip, about 1 1/2" x 1/2". Brooch is 2 3/8" x about 1" at widest point, bracelet is 2 1/4" x 1 7/8" inner diameter, with squared goldtone wire and is about 1" wide at center front.

Description: Trifari Philippe Pastel Enamel Fur Clip - Marked with "Des. Pat No." and 119105, this design dates to February of 1940 and is one of the popular early enameled floral fur clip series. At 2 1/4" x 2", this is about average size for this genre. Pink yellow and medium blue flowers are enhanced with dark green leaves, brown and green stems, and a darker blue bow. Small clears are scattered throughout the piece, and the center of the larger pink flower uses a tiny gumdrop cabochon in emerald green. Clear stones are all original. Description: Trifari Alfred Philippe Smokey Topaz/Black Diamond Rhinestone Floral Brooch - There are those who turn up their noses at 1950's-1960's Trifari, probably because they have not seen the top of the line pieces. This is a color variation of the fuchsia/black diamond parure seen in Deanna Farneti Cera's "Amazing Gems"; this color combination is MUCH more difficult to find. Dark brown oval rhinestones comprise the petals, with the edges, center and stem of the flower done in black diamond rhinestone pave. Plating is a muted goldtone that I have only seen on this particular design series. Marked Trifari with crown and copyright symbol, this measures about 2 5/8" x 2". Description: Trifari Philippe Floral Fur Clip - One of Trifari's most popular circa 1940's pieces were the fur clips with a floral theme. I am guessing these are stylized violets, but whatever they are they are lovely. Most of the piece uses the two-tone (or more) enameling for which Trifari (and Coro) were justly famous. The heart shaped leaves use two shades of olive green enameling, with the veins and the edges traced with a green-aqua and turned tips pave set with clear rhinestones. Stems also use brown enameling highlighted with the aqua green, tied with a pave set ribbon and single clears on the end. The left flower is done in various shades of purple with white highlights. Only the yellow flower is a solid color with no highlights. I originally thought the yellow was re-done but I have since seen one or two others done this same way. Older crown Trifari signature, silvertone plating, all stones appear original.

Description: Trifari Sterling Philippe Jelly Belly Sailboat Brooch - This is one of the few jelly belly pieces that Alfred Philippe designed for Trifari that did not use an animal/insect theme. Marked Des. Pat. No. 135174, this patent dates to March of 1943; also marked sterling and Trifari with a crown. Light gold wash, rigging is silvertone. Small flag and center of bow have tiny rhinestone pave, several of which are missing; I can replace if you would like. 2 1/2" x 1 1/2".

Description: Trifari Fuchsia & Black Diamond Starfish? Brooch - Part of a grouping shown in Deana Farneti Cera's wonderful "Amazing Gems" book, this late 1950's-early 1960's piece shows the culmination of Alfred Philippe's design work. While this series was produced in a number of different color combinations, the fuchsia-black diamond appears to have been the most popular, and justifiably so. Set in a darkened silvertone and signed crown Trifari and copyright symbol, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" at widest points. In excellent condition. If you are a Trifari collector and do not have one of these, you are missing out on one of the most spectacular pieces this company produced.

Description: Trifari Floral Demi Parure - What a wonderful set! I was not able to find a patent for this but I have seen various versions with different flower pieces over the years and would circa date this to the late 1950's. I am guessing that the floral pieces are glass, in pink, light blue, and white, each centered with a small aurora borealis rhinestone. Green enamel leaves back the floral pieces, and the lattice design of the rest is enameled in white. Goldtone Trifanium setting. Necklace is in excellent condition with very little chipping to the white enamel, and some plating wear on the extension ball. Bracelet is also very good condition, but with a little more of the white enamel loss. Earrings are also very good but with some enamel loss on the right earring. Necklace is adjustable to about 16 1/4" clip earrings are about 1" in diameter, and oval hinged bangle with safety chain is 1" at the widest point, with standard 2 1/4" x 2". The bracelet is particularly charming.

Description: Trifari Sterling Vermeil Retro Bracelet with Aqua and Clear Stones - While I was unable to find a patent for this particular design, I think it is safe to assume this is circa mid 1940's. Sterling links set with a line of clear rhinestones alternate with unfoiled aqua glass stones prong set on either side of the linkage. As with most vermeil plating from this time period, this shows signs of wear, and the plating on the back of the connecting links has pretty much worn away. I replaced several missing clear stones, but the vast majority are original. Aqua stones are in excellent shape and a lovely color. Slightly over 7" x 1/2", this is, like most older Trifari, lovely and a fine jewelry look which is complimentary to most women.

Description: Crown Trifari Jonquil Yellow Fruit Salad Necklace and Earring Set - Trifari produced any number of "fruit salad" type pieces, starting in the 1930's and going through the 1960's; the shapes, colors, and opacity changed over the years but the idea was the same. This is a later piece, probably late 1950's or 1960's, almost reminiscent of a better quality version of the Lisner translucent leaves pieces. Light lemon translucent yellow glass leaves are set in goldtone Trifanium and alternate with clear rhinestone baguettes and rounds. Excellent condition; the only thing I see is that the chain has been lengthened on the necklace on one side for the previous owner, and this could easily be removed back to original length if desired. Marked Trifari with copyright symbol on hook; adjustable to 16 1/2" (subtract 1 3/4" if extra chain is removed), about 1/2" wide. Earrings are marked with crown and Trifari on the clip findings, 1" x 7/8". Yellow is a hot fashion color right now, and true yellow jewelry, especially in quality vintage, is difficult to find. Much prettier in person, it was impossible to get the light source right to show the true color and quality here.

Description: Trifari Triple Head Floral Brooch Red Clear Stones - One of the sought after 1940's Philippe patented designs, this is marked 129183, Des. Pat. No. and Trifari. Patent was granted August 26, 1941, which puts this prior to WWII. Slight uniform darkening/yellowing of stones (I would question the legitimacy of any piece from this era that didn't have some) and 2-3 small clears are replacements. Red stones are in excellent shape as is the burgundy/pink enameling and the silvertone plating. 3 1/2" x 1 1/2". Wonderful.

Description: Trifari Set of Two Brooches and Pair of Earrings in Multi-Blue Rhinestones - Quality 1960's pieces, probably late Philippe, with the "filled-in" dome earrings used on the top quality sets of this era. While my flash camera makes the difference in the blues in the different cuts of stones quite obvious, in person you will find these differences to be much more subtle, particularly on the earrings. The brooches use octagonal (emerald) cuts in different sizes while the earrings seem to be pretty much one size; all pieces use an occasional small blue round; both brooches have paved "ribbon" designs. All stones appear to be original, even the pave. Goldtone Trifanium plating is heavy and very close to pristine. Excellent quality, condition and design. Top Trifari continues to disappear into private collections and will probably not re-emerge for a long time.

Description: Trifari Crown Brooch and Earring Set - Trifari made several crown designs over the years; this is probably the most popular, and here it is, in close to pristine condition in the most desired color combination. The large unfoiled cabochons are in royal blue, while the smaller oval cabochon and the rhinestones that are red are ruby colored - not fire engine red, but a beautiful raspberry that is half way between fuchsia and red. The emerald green oval stone in faceted and is flanked by smaller emerald green rounds; channel set green baguettes encircle the upper bottom; the rest is set with clear rhinestone pave, with a lone montana blue rhinestone at the top. Earrings have the same oval cabochons, with matching ruby rhinestone rounds and clear pave on the top of the swirl. Goldtone Trifanium heavy plating, very slightly worn on the back of brooch, earrings are unworn. Clears are clean and sparkly, as are all the rest of the stones. Patented in 1944, this seems to be a slightly postwar version, probably done about the time of Elizabeth II's coronation. It must be noted that since Trifari used a crown in their logo (as on this piece) that this design might have been used for that reason as well. About 2" x 1 5/8" for the brooch, 1" x 5/8" for the earrings. It doesn't get much closer to perfect than this.

Description: Trifari Dark Sapphire and Clear Rhinestone Necklace, Bracelet, Brooch and Earring Parure - Though I have not been able to find a patent or advertisement for this particular pattern, I would date this to the 1950's, and have also seen this in red/clear and green/clear. (The 6-stone floral motif dates back to at least the late 1930's for Trifari.) Absolutely gorgeous A quality necklace alternates single floral links with floral and leaf motif links, slightly curved so difficult to measure accurately but should adjust to fit up to at least a 16" neck, marked Trifari on hook. Earrings are about 7/8" x 5/8", marked Crown Trifari on clip mechanism. Brooch is almost 2" x 1 1/4", marked Crown Trifari on back of stem. Bracelet is 7" x 1/2" and is unsigned but is a perfect match; clasp is not the usual Trifari patented stone set clasp so is probably a replacement (yes, Trifari actually patented their foldover clasp) and signature might have been on the back of original. Everything else is in excellent condition. Full Trifari parures of this type are difficult to find.

Description: Trifari Pink Shoebutton Fur/Pin Clip and Bracelet Set - Of the 1940's pieces this is one of my favorite types. Pink faux moonstone cabochons are centered with a single clear rhinestone; more clear stones are sprinkled among the cabs and used in a pave motif on the bow at the top of the fur clip and the butterfly-looking links on the bracelet. Whether the fur clip was intended to be a stylized floral or a bunch of grapes design I do not know. These are in excellent original condition and a sought-after milieu. Pretty in pink and charming as almost all Trifari from that period is. Almost certainly a Philippe design; signed Trifari with a crown over the T, and done in heavy rhodium plate that became known as Trifanium. Clip measures 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" at widest points, bracelet is 7" x 1/2" with a hidden push-in clasp.

Description: Trifari "Clair de Lune" Necklace - Clair de Lune, or Light of the Moon, was interpreted by Alfred Philippe to use a crescent shaped, or demi-lune (half moon) stone, in a faux moonstone color that is a blue-grey with kind of an adularescent effect. Accented with red square rhinestones and clear round rhinestones, this lovely design is elegant enough for a princess. Goldtone; chain shows quite a bit of wear to the plating on the sides of the neck; this must have been a much loved and worn piece. Foldover clasp, about 15". Clears show age yellowing but all appear to be original. Good vintage condition.

Description: Trifari Skinny Navette Necklace and Bracelet Set with All Clear Rhinestones - This 1960's Philippe design is referred to on one well-known site as a "leaves and berries" pattern - whether this was the designer's original concept or not is certainly anyone's opinion, but it is interesting to note that, like most of Trifari's designs, there was a clear version and more than one colored version. I have seen various pieces of this design in autumn colors (brown-orange-topaz) and also in a fuchsia-multi green combination. Here we have the classic all clear version. Beside the long, thin marquises there are also regular marquises, rounds and tiny baguettes. One or two of the skinny marquises have nicked points, and most of the marquises have yellowed slightly. I don't feel this detracts but if you want "brand new" you will either want to consider some stone replacement or skip this set entirely. Plating and every other aspect of this set is in excellent condition. Bracelet is slightly over 7", necklace is adjustable to 16"+. Both pieces about 3/8" wide.

Clasp is marked Copyright (spelled out) By Trifari (with crown over the T). Some baguettes have yellowed very slightly, otherwise excellent condition. Description: Trifari Heliotrope Rhinestone Link Necklace - If you've never seen a heliotrope rhinestone you are in for a treat! These stones are a combination of blue, aqua and purple in one stone, which gives them not only a richness that a regular stone doesn't have, it also makes this piece wearable with many colors of clothing. Gold Trifanium setting with a striated finish, with four navettes (marquises) on each link except the one closest to the clasp, 45 stones in all. IF you could find these stones they would probably justify the cost of the necklace all by themselves. Description: Trifari Yellow Glass? Floral Necklace, Bracelet and Brooch Demi Set-I have searched for the patents for this set but have had no luck; it is my belief that this is from the time span between 1945-55. Set is goldtone with a slight rose gold cast, whether this was intentional or whether this is from patina I am not sure. While these appear to be glass rather than plastic I am not really sure, either; they are cold to the touch but am not sure if I am feeling the flowers or the metal. All pieces are marked "Trifari Pat. Pend.", with crown symbol on the brooch, and will come in the box they came in, which appears to be a 1950's Trifari velvet and satin box; interior is in good shape though exterior has some discolored parts. Necklace measures 15 1/4" x 5/8" with flat snake chain and foldover clasp. Bracelet is a link style, 7 1/4" x 5/8". Brooch is a small floral spray design and measures 2" x 1". Obviously well thought thru by a master jeweler. The real McCoy would be thousands of dollars; you don't have to tell!
