Sarah Coventry - Emmons
Both Sarah Coventry and its predecessor line, Emmons, were "home party" jewelry companies, i.e. the jewelry was sold at parties given in "hostess"'es homes. Sarah Coventry was widely sold in the 1950's and 1960's, with a replacement guarantee; thus the jewelry was well made and for the most part usually stands the test of time extremely well. It was relatively expensive for the time and usually tailored in design, aimed at the newly emerging market of working women in the US. Sarah Coventry has several different markings, including SARAH, Sarah Cov, and SC.
More recent Sarah Coventry was sold in Wal-Mart (while owned by Hefner Enterprises) and has now re-emerged, once again, as a home party line. All of the pieces here, I believe, are 1970's or earlier.

Description: Sarah Coventry Versaille(sic)s Bracelet and Earrings Set- Probably the most sought after and desirable of all the SC pieces; I have been told that this set was only available to employees and hostesses and was not available to the general public for purchase but I have not been able to confirm this. Both pieces are done with a bi-colored stone that is a yellow body with a blue-green stripe in the center and surrounded with a goldtone twisted rope frame. Bracelet is a side-hinged clamper with a maple leaf? design on either side of stone over an embossed ground; design goes all the way around. 1 1/2 inches at widest point. Clip earrings are about 1" in diameter. As with almost ever SC piece we have had, in excellent condition with only some wear to the interior of the bracelet. Exterior is excellent. I am not sure that the safety chain is original but it is what came with the bracelet. The original carding for this product said "Versaille" rather than the correct "Versailles". Description: Emmons Demi Parure in Glass Pearls and Rhinestones - Emmons was apparently the forerunner of Sarah Coventry and was also sold in a home party format. This is a lovely, flattering set that was not found all together but at three separate times! All three pieces marked Emmons, with the earring using the same type of clip mechanism that became ubiquitous for Sarah Coventry. Necklace is adjustable up to 20" and has the script E under a crown hangtag that is marked on the reverse Emmons. Earrings are 1 1/4" x 7/8"; bracelet is 7" with a foldover clasp. Pearls on the bracelet are slightly scuffed at high points, while other pieces appear excellent. Oddly, all the findings on all three pieces appear to be a darker gold than the goldtone on the actual design - I'm not certain if these have just aged differently or whether Emmons decided to use findings that didn't match! Parures are difficult to find and sometimes take many years to match up, if ever, so take advatage of the reasonable price. Item: SS7-422 Price: $52.50 US |

Description: Sarah Coventry "Song of India" Brooch and Earring Set - One of SC's most interesting and colorful sets. This uses a pinwheel stone design over a wreath or circle setting, using turquoise colored ballotini, fuchsia/ruby (raspberry red) and Montana (navy) blue rhinestones on a goldtone setting. Because this design did not use any pronging they are usually found with at least a few of the ballotini missing, and these were no exception. I have replaced with as close a size/color match as I could obtain. Brooch is about 1 1/2" in diameter, earrings are clip and about 1" in diameter. Little "do-nuts" in the spaces between stones are excess glue from original manufacture.

Description: Sarah Coventry Cuff Bracelet with Blue-Purple Art Glass Stones - I have never seen this (or any other SC solid cuff bracelet) before. Signed Sarah Cov on the inside, done in silvertone metal with three riveted stones done in a kind of blue and purple crackled glass. Cuff is 1 5/8" wide with a 1" back opening,inside diameter of 2 1/2" x 2". I have not been able to find a pattern name but have seen the matching earrings. Description: Sarah Coventry "Mosaic" Brooch -Certainly one of my favorite SC pieces, a classic, wearable brooch that has certainly withstood the test of time. Stylized Maltese cross design done with opaque cabochons; center one simulates bloodstone, while outer pieces simply look like an assortment of colors-red, olive green and a turquoise blue, separataed by cherry red opaque cabs. Very large 35mm x 40mm unfoiled center glass stone in black diamond, framed in silvertone and set with black diamond rhinestones. Description: Sarah Coventry Fashion Parade Necklace and Earring Set - Pendant style necklace and matching earrings - pendant is unusual in that it has it's own jump ring so it can be detached from the chain (perhaps originally on a different chain???) 18" goldtone curb-type chain has Sarah Coventry metal hang tag. Clip earrings use smaller baroque type glass pearl; one pearl has a small ding in the pearlesence on the back underside where it does not show. Chain has dulled with time, otherwise in excellent original condition, but price reflects these very small flaws. It is my understanding that this grouping also came with a stick pin and a ring. Description: Sarah Coventry "High Fashion" Brooch - Done in goldtone with a large Madiera topaz colored unfoiled glass marquise and round clear accent rhinestones in goldtone, this is one of SC's most valued pieces and is shown in many cj books as an example of beautiful design. Description: Sarah Coventry Maltese Cross Design Pendant Necklace - I have tried to find the exact pattern name for this design and recently found information suggesting it was called "Starburst", though SC also used this name for a different design. Frosted goldtone type setting with dark brown round rhinestones and a color that seems to be halfway in between jonquil and peridot-a yellow green that perhaps we can describe as light celery green. How about periquil? Anyway, excellent condition. Chain is a double rollo, 22", and is not marked so is perhaps a replacement?? but not by me. Pendant portion is 2 3/8" in diameter, weighty. Description: Sarah Coventry "Carnival" Brooch and Earrings Set - Apparently SC used this design name on more than one style. This uses navy, red, and dark moss green round cabochons in goldtone. Marked on clip finding Sarah Cov with copyright mark; stamping is light, but there.Brooch is marked Sarah Cov with copyright mark, also, and is about 2 1/4" in diameter; earrings are about 1 1/8" in diameter. Description: Sarah Coventry Long Necklace with Purple Glass Stations - I was unable to find the name for this particular pattern, though SC did many long necklaces of similar design. I have doubled this on the neckform for photographic purposes but this is actually a single 52" strand with a clasp (it could easily be doubled, however). Four stations, each with two pieces of bezeled unfoiled pink-purple oval glass stones separated by a diamond shaped filigree metal spacer. Metal hangtag says Sarah Cov with copyright symbol.
