DeLizza & Elster
DeLizza & Elster, Inc. began in 1947 and were in business until 1990. They produced jewelry for many well known (Weiss, Sarah Coventry, Kenneth Jay Lane) and not so well known (Tara, Gloria, Madelaine, Celebrity) companies as well as selling under their own name(s). One line, known as Juliana, was only in production for a few years but the look has become known as "Juliana style". While D&E's own manufactured jewelry was unsigned, in general there are ways of identifying pieces as genuine D&E by findings and style; however this is still an evolving identification, and some pieces may look like D&E and NOT be, vice versa some may not look like D&E and MAY be. The pieces on this page are confirmed pieces; the "maybes" are sprinkled around the unsigned section and you will probably want to browse the entire section.

Description: De Lizza & Elster (Juliana) Watermelon Earrings - In her wonderful new book on Juliana, Ann Pitman refers to these as heliotrope, but most will recognize the term watermelon as the specialty stone that combines fuchsia and multi greens (heliotrope, according to the dictionary, is light purple). These earrings use a central oval stone in watermelon, with an unfoiled skinny navette in purple at the top, more purple rhinestone chain around the side and a larger fuchsia rhinestone at the bottom. Description: De Lizza & Elster (Juliana) Gold Fluss Earrings - Collectors of Juliana pieces will understand this term, but if you are not familiar, gold fluss refers to chalk (opaque)white infused with copper colored "dust" (which, indeed, may be copper filings). Center oval cabochons are flanked on one side with chalk white skinny navettes, while the rest of the perimeter is set with golden topaz AB rhinestones. Description: DeLizza and Elster aka Juliana Brooch/Pendant in Red/Red Aurora Borealis Stones - A maltese cross type design, this same design is shown in black in Ann Pitman's Juliana Jewelry Reference book, on pg. 271, and not listed as a brooch/pendant but simply a brooch, and the matching bracelet, necklace and earrings are shown in red. Usual layered construction, this starts with a large dark siam round surrounded by a border of smaller dark siam stones, then flanked by four large chatons in an "x" pattern alternating with sets of three skinny navettes (unfoiled). Bottom layer has sets of 4 skinny navettes alternating with sets of three red aurora borealis stones. 2 1/4" in diameter at widest points, all prong set, very glittery. There seem to be some very slight color differences in the skinny navettes, which may be due to light direction and the fact that the stones are unfoiled; I have no reason to believe that these are not original to the piece. This piece uses top quality clear aurora borealis crystal beads and goldtone metallic beads over the top of a rhinestone chain/set base done in clear and aurora borealis rhinestones, all prong set, in rounds and navette shapes. Description: DeLizza and Elster Frosted Clear and Black Diamond Rhinestone Brooch and Earring Set - Well known D&E design. Layered brooch uses a center of frosted round stones surrounded by black diamond rhinestones and frosted pears. Bottom layer uses an alternating pattern of two pears and a frosted round with a black diamond. Clip earrings are similar but flat, using a single round surrounded by pears and black diamond stones in a pinwheel design. All prong set in a darkened finish that is close to gunmetal but has no blue overtones. Brooch is 2" in diameter, earrings are 1 1/4". Excellent condition. Typical D&E findings. Description: DeLizza and Elster Dangling Brooch in Olive, Purple and Black - This matches one of D&E's most sought after parures. Central black oval stone is concave and surrounded by a two layer wreath of purple marquises and olive green rounds. From the bottom dangle three snake chain long dangles, and one short dangle, which use pear shaped purple stones and round olive dangles on the long pieces, and a round purple stone with a round olive dangle on the shorter piece. All is great - except that there is a wired over piece missing from the top, which you would never realize unless you were familiar with the grouping. Description: DeLizza and Elster Brooch in Jonquil, Lavender and Light Blue Rhinestone - Set in goldtone, the larger rounds in the piece are dentelle (fancy cut), which though unusual for D&E is not unheard of, and wow! does this piece sparkle! Done in two layers, the top layer uses groups of four yellow rhinestones and a single blue pear, over a bottom layer of larger, beautiful lavender dentelles with light blue rounds (also dentelles) alternating with the pears in the upper layer. Description: DeLizza and Elster "Button" and Bead Bracelet - I have never seen this "antique button" component used before in a D&E piece, but it is very pretty, much prettier in person than my picture indicates. Typical 5 link construction with Colorado topaz rhinestones, over which are gold dust balls, slightly smaller black peacock balls, and vitrail crystal beads. Description: Japanned Brooch & Earring Set with Fuchsia/Olivine/Pink/Black Rhinestones - I am almost certain this is DeLizza and Elster aka Juliana but I have not yet had it verified. Unfoiled olive green, pink and fuchsia marquises surround a black rhinestone center made up of a large round bordered by small black rounds. Larger rounds in pink connect the marquises on the outer row; most of these rounds have darkened a little. The earrings have black, pink and olive skinny marquises and fuchsia and pink regular marquises, all atop of a black round. All stones are pronged; earrings have the 3 hole finding used by D&E.
