Hobe et Cie

Similar to many of the beginnings of costume jewelry companies in the US, Hobe - Jewels of Legendary Splendor - founds their roots in fine jewelry in Europe. William Hobe, who started the Hobe company here in America, was the son of Jacques Hobe, a French fine jeweler. While there seems to be some disagreement as to the exact year when William Hobe began, I think it is safe to say that they started no later than 1927. A family run business with the sons, grandsons and apparently even great-grandchildren involved, their pieces are well made and top quality and sometimes used semi-precious stones as well as Austrian crystal. The company sold under the Hobe name as well as other signatures (e.g. Madonna) and only in recent years has discontinued business.

Description: Hobe Glass Pearl/Faux Carnelian Bead Bracelet - A wonderful "drippy" look that goes down your hand, this goldtone bracelet features three rows of spring wire covered with squared chain; the back uses filigree beads alternating with small brown seed beads, and the front is covered with foxtail chain that ends with small glass pearls, larger specialty pearls with more of the small brown beads used as pin holders and leafy goldtone endcaps, along with faux carnelian pear shaped beads with the same leafy endcaps. About half of the foxtail chain doesn't have the pearl ends, and I am not certain whether they ever did or whether that is just part of the design, as I see no signs of breakage. However, if you wanted to add them it could be done quite easily. Otherwise excellent to pristine condition. Beautiful piece. This has been in my personal collection for over 20 years.
