Bogoff - Spear Novelty
Bogoff was a Chicago based (Spear Novelty) company that appears to have opened just after World War 2 and closed in the early 1960's. Known for its distinctive chains and elegant designs, it has proven to have a large fan base among collectors. Plating on the higher end pieces is almost always rhodium, and almost all of the rhinestone pieces contain at least one dentelle (fancy cut and more expensive round rhinestone). Earrings may be clip or screwback, and rhinestones are almost always paste-set. Similar in style to ORA jewelry, there is no known link between the two companies.

Description: Bogoff Clear Rhinestone Floral Dangle Earrings - Large dentelle clear rhinestones in center of floral head are surrounded by clear chatons, and are suspended from a trio of clear rhinestones. Clip findings, silvertone (possibly rhodium) plate. 1" x 5/8" at widest point, very nice condition with only a hint of yellow on a few stones, and a little plating loss on the back of one of the findings as shown in 2nd picture. Description: Bogoff Turquoise and Clear Rhinestone Necklace and Earring Set - Necklace uses aqua marquises and surrounds half of each stone with a collarof clear rhinestones. Earrings use the same marquises in a grouping of three and surrounds them with a full circle of clear rhinestones. Earrings are screwback, marked on the screw finding. Necklace is unsigned but signature was probably on the final stone of the tail which is missing. Earrings are 13 1/16" in diameter, necklace is 3/8" wide and adjustable, from about 13" to 16", and uses a heavy rhinestone set hook that I have only seen on Bogoff pieces. Silvertone setting with rhodium plate. Some of the clears on the necklace have yellowed and you may wish to restone the clears if you want a completely "white" look. Description: Bogoff All Clear Rhinestone Clip Earrings - Bogoff always used nice quality stones, but the center squares here are exceptional - step cut and extremely sparkly. Framed by a border of pave set branches and topped with a smaller square, these are very classy and probably match an equally nice necklace. Squatty clip finding is marked Bogoff. Silvertone, 7/8" x 1/2". One small square is very slightly yellow, the rest of the stones are fine, and any other yellow seen in the picture is a reflection you won't find in person. Description: Incredible Bogoff Pink and Clear Necklace and Earring Set - Like the beer that made Milwaukee famous, this is one example of why Bogoff is loved and sought after. Pink marquises and clear rounds make up the 13 front links of the necklaces, while side portions are one of the typical Bogoff fancy chain designs, this one using 3 clear rounds per link. Clasp is a foldover type with both clasp and holders being rhinestone set. Either end of the chain is marked Bogoff in a U shape. Earrings are clip, in the shape of a pentagonal flower, with round clears circling a single pink round. Necklace is 15", earrings are 13/16" point to point. Excellent original condition with slight yellowing of some of the small clears on the necklace. Description: Bogoff Aqua and Clear Rhinestone Bracelet - This was so sparkly that my camera got confused! Intense aqua rhinestones are surrounded by a four leaf stylized motif , each leaf set with a single clear rhinestone. Silvertone plate is probably rhodium. 7 1/2" wearable length, with safety chain, rhinestone set foldover clasp. Marked Bogoff on both end links, with one of the links marked twice. Description: Bogoff Intense Light Blue and Clear Rhinestone Bracelet and Earring Set - Absolutely stunning. Square blue stones are surrounded by clear round rhinestones in a double row on the bracelet and a curved single row for the clip earrings. Description: Bogoff Clear Rhinestone "V" Clip Earrings - Pave set rhinestone linked "v" shapes graduate below the usual Bogoff dentelle rhinestone topper (small regular chaton underneath). Description: Bogoff Four Leaf Clover Necklace and Earring Set - Lovely lime green and clear rhinestone set in silvertone. Earrings have typical triangular clip findings and measure 3/4" in diameter; necklace uses a heavy "paperclip" type chain with springring clasp, about 16 1/4" including clasp. Excellent condition; clear rhinestone in center of earring is a replacement. While the chain is not the elaborte chain found on many Bogoff pieces, I have found after doing research that this is the original chain for this design. Seen on other sites at a much higher price. Yellow plastic leaves similar to glass fruit salad pieces are interspersed with clear paste set rhinestones. Silvertone setting. Description: Bogoff Lime Green Rhinestone Bracelet - 13 link bracelet with 5 stones in each link; push-in clasp and safety chain. All stones are round and paste set, with the lime green stones making up the flower "petals" and a clear stone in the center. Some of the center clears have yellowed a little; you may wish to have them replaced, but they do not detract in any way. Rhodium plate setting, 6 3/4" x 1/2". Description: Bogoff Clear Dentelle and Pear Rhinestone Necklace - A classic design for this company, this uses graduated pear cuts and large dentelle (fancy cut) rounds, as well as regular rounds in smaller sizes. As usual for Bogoff, the "chain" is a series of cast rhinestone set links that culminate in their horseshoe foldover clasp. 15"; center (longest) dangle is about 1 1/4". All clear rhinestones in silvertone except for the 9 oval emerald green glass stones at the bottom of the fancy links in the center of the necklace.
